Digital Construction Project of the Year 2026: Shortlisted Projects Showcase Innovation (2026)

The future of construction is here, and it's digital! The Digital Construction Awards 2026 has unveiled its shortlist for the Digital Construction Project of the Year, showcasing the industry's most innovative and transformative projects. But which one will take the crown?

The Contenders:

  1. Brook Mead Academy: LSI Architects and Wates Construction's collaboration resulted in two net-zero carbon school buildings, catering to 1,200 students. This project, part of the DfE's Construction Framework 21, replaced temporary facilities in a deprived area. LSI's challenge was implementing the DfE's COBie standards, requiring 24,000 data properties to be manually checked. They introduced presets and translators to streamline data management, setting a new industry standard with 100% and 99.89% compliance scores.

  2. Meridian Water: Taylor Woodrow is delivering infrastructure for 10,000 homes and 6,000 jobs. Taywood Engineering used digital tools to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and sustainability across four work packages. A breakthrough was a detailed 4D model integrating drone data, enabling granular activity visualization. They also developed an automated Aconex workflow for BIM execution standards, ensuring data quality and compliance.

  3. One Broadgate: Sir Robert McAlpine, British Land, Focchi, and Morrisroe delivered this mixed-use development ahead of schedule and within budget. They tackled complex challenges, including advanced building systems and client demands. A digital-first strategy ensured structured data and asset traceability. The team faced initial challenges but achieved improved delivery certainty, client satisfaction, and industry-leading productivity, earning a BREEAM innovation credit.

  4. The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre: Laing O'Rourke's project is a game-changer for Oxford University. Managing 5,000+ BWIC penetrations was a key challenge. They implemented a digital strategy, integrating Solibri, Power BI, and AR tools, to automate and streamline verification. This reduced penetration checks from weeks to a day, saving 600+ hours and costs.

  5. University of Birmingham's Molecular Sciences Building: Morgan Sindall Construction and BakerHicks created a verified digital twin with a 50mm tolerance. Asset management was crucial, aligning with the university's FM system. High-spec laser scanners and AI-assisted 3D modeling ensured compliance. Revizto managed issues and clash detection, while Oculo AI documented site progress.

The Verdict:

Which project will be crowned the Digital Construction Project of the Year 2026? The competition is fierce, with each project showcasing unique digital prowess. But here's where it gets controversial: is the most innovative project always the most deserving winner? Or should practical implementation and industry impact be the deciding factors?
